“Try Justice Ayo Salami For Perjury”, Court Orders AGF

An Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday granted the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) leave to try the suspended President of the Court of Appeal (PCA) Justice Isa Ayo-Salami for perjury.
Engr Segun Oni, the former Governor of Ekiti State had approached the Court for an order of Mandamus, compelling the AGF to try Salami for perjury, an offence punishable with 14 years imprisonment.
Meanwhile just before the High Court granted the leave to prosecute the suspended judge, the Justice Lawal Uwais Stakeholders Judicial Reform Committee which looked into the suspension of the judge indicted the National Judicial Council, NJC, of the Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu era of high handedness and abuse of procedure in its recommendation for Justice Salami’s suspension.
The panel therefore submitted and recommended that he should be recalled from suspension.
The Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapher also wrote a letter to the President asking that Justice Ayo Salami should be recalled from suspension as “he did no wrong deserving any punishment”.
