A northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, on Friday in Kaduna carpeted the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, over his comment on the Boko Haram Islamic sect.
It said it was wrong for an individual or groups to politicise the current security challenges in the country.
Oritsejafor had warned President Goodluck Jonathan against pampering the members of Boko Haram and rejected the position of the United States that the sect was born as a result of the increasing poverty rate in the country.
The ACF, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Anthony Sani, said the position of CAN was unfortunate as it would make resolution to the Boko Haram problem more difficult than expected.
The group said it was wrong for CAN to say that it was because the region failed to clinch power in 2011 that the North decided to make the country ungovernable through the use of Boko Haram.
Arewa said the position of the current leadership of CAN was most ridiculous as it was polarising, especially when regard was paid to the fact that northern leaders never missed the opportunity to condemn the senseless killings of innocent people for whatever reason, let alone in the name of God.
It said, “It is noteworthy that ACF congratulated President Jonathan over his victory at the polls, as well as others who won elections in the spirit of democracy. ACF made it clear that it was in Nigeria’s best interest that the President succeeds in his work.”
