Mr. Ekpo Nta, Chairman, ICPC
The chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Mr. Ekpo Nta, yesterday in Lokoja, lamented the inputs of teachers and parents into exam malpractices in Nigeria and the consequence of such towards a better future for this country. He said a situation where parents and teachers were encouraging pupils to indulge in exam cheating and malpractice is counterproductive to the realization of a better future for this and succeeding generations of this country and will not be acceptable to a society such as ours.

The chairman, ably represented by the Director of Education in the Commission, Rashidat Okoduwa, at the two-day Capacity building workshop for teachers jointly organized by the ICPC and the National Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC, said a situation where parents will be bribing teachers for their children to be given a pass mark portends danger for the growth of the system.

Professor Goodswill Obioma, the executive secretary of NERDC, in his earlier contribution, said it is the intention of the workshop to create awareness on the dangers of corruption, indiscipline, misadministration in every sector of the nation’s economy.
He further stressed that the council has considered the inclusion of national values in the Basic Educational Curriculum, in order to boost the morale of the upcoming ones.
