Reverend, 2 Islamic Clerics Arrested Over Financial Crimes

The only time you see privileged Nigerians laughing and working together in harmony is when they are smiling to the bank at the expense of our commonwealth, Olufamous.com have observed.

Although this kind of stealing for which a Reverend and two Muslim Clerics were arrested by the EFCC has been going on in Nigeria for a long time, but it becomes more worrisome when religious leaders, those who should condemn corrupt politicians, are the ones now committing the crime.

The EFCC disclosed over the weekend that it had arrested and arraigned the three men before Justice M.S. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Yola, Adamawa State, on a 6-count charge of money laundering and obtaining by false pretences.

Reverend John Simon Jatutu, Special Adviser to the Taraba State governor on Religious Matters, it was gathered by Olufamous.com, conspired with Alhaji Inuwa Usman and Alhaji Chindo M.D. Bose, both leaders of the Muslim Council and diverted funds approved to the council by the state government towards the celebration of Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee.

Trouble started when the Taraba State government, in September 2010, approved N42million for the Christian Association and the Muslim Council in the state for purposes of celebrating Nigeria's 50th Independence Anniversary.

Both the Christian and Muslim Councils are suppose to get N21million each, but the Reverend John and the two Islamic Clerics allegedly cornered N10million from the Muslim Council share of the money and declared only N11million to the council.

Unfortunately for them, Olufamous.com gathered that members of the Muslim Council got wind of the actual amount approved for them. Consequently, a petition was sent to the EFCC, leading to their arraignment before justice Shuaibu.

When the charges were read to the three accused persons, they pleaded not guilty. Following their not guilty plea, the court will now fix a new date for the substantive trial to commence.
